Aaron Copland [Aaron Copland]
(1900–1990) a US ↑composer of modern ↑classical music, much of which uses traditional folk songs. His best-known works include the ↑ballets Appalachian Spring (1944), for which he won the ↑Pulitzer Prize, and Billy the Kid (1939). He also wrote music for eight films and received an ↑Oscar for The Heiress (1949).
